Load balancing print across multiple printers in a group/pool improves overall document output velocity. Documents no longer have to wait until the printer is ready to print. Utilizing OM Plus , documents can be sent through a true "round robin" process to ensure that all printers in the group are printing equally. As soon as a printer is free, the next job in the queue can print.
This improves asset utilization and improves document output speeds. The standard Windows Server spooling system can pool printers, but it sends job to the next printer in the group only if the first one is busy. This puts an undue amount of wear and tear on the printers in the group at the "front of the line".
Additionally, print jobs can be automatically re-routed by OM Plus from network printers to a large central printer if they exceed a certain number of pages (or other criteria). At that time, the end user receives an email instructing them how to pick up their re-directed job. This improves throughput by utilizing a higher volume (and usually lower cost) printer.
